Event management is described as the application of project management to the creation and development of large-scale events such as conferences, festivals, weddings, formal parties, ceremonial service, concerts or conventions. It generally involve the study of the brand, identifying its target audience, formulating the event concept and coordinating the technical aspects before actually introducing the event.
The events industry now includes events of all dimensions from the Olympics down to business breakfast meetings. Many industries charitable establishments and interest groups have hold events in order to market themselves, raise money, build business relationships or celebrate achievement.
The procedure of planning and organizing the event is usually referred to as event planning and which can include budgeting, acquiring necessary permits, site selection, scheduling, coordinating transportation and parking, arranging decor, arranging for speakers or entertainers, event security, coordinating with third party vendors, catering, and emergency plans. Each event is different in its nature so process of planning & accomplishment of each event vary on basis of type of event.
The event manager is an individual who plans and executes the event, taking accountability for the creative, logistical and technical elements. All this includes overall event design, marketing, brand building and communication strategy, visual production, script writing, budgeting, logistics, negotiation, and client service.
An event venue could be an onsite or offsite location. The event manager is mostly not responsible for operations at rented event or entertainment venues, but will ensure to monitor all aspects of the event on site.
